Al Eberhardt has often been described as one of the most versatile trumpeters in the United States. During his distinguished career he has had the opportunity to perform with some of America's greatest stars including legendary singers Sinatra, Jack Jones, Barbara Mandrell and the fabulous Four Freshmen, comedians Bob Hope, Bill Cosby, Steve Allen and Bob Newhart, jazz greats Johnny Smith, Bill Watrous, Pete Fountain, Carl "Doc" Severinsen, Herbie Mann, Frank Mantooth and Bobby Shew. Al has also performed with pop icons like Lou Christy, The Crystals, Frankie Valli, James Brown, Wayne Newton and the Beach Boys. Pianist Roger Williams has described him as "A Great Talent".
Al's very popular dance/jazz band (known as “The Changing Times”) is still very much in demand and typically does over 50 prestigious performances annually. Al also finds himself busy as a freelance player/teacher with a large private lesson studio, a very popular local adjudicator/clinician, and the creator/ composer of several trumpet/brass pedagogy aids. His system of warm ups and range builders have been used by many successful players and educators from coast to coast. Al also currently performs frequently as the principal trumpet/soloist with the Pueblo Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as soloist with the Colorado State University-Pueblo Wind Ensemble. He recently performed with the Jimmie Dorsey and Les Brown Orchestras, playing the jazz solo chairs in both bands. Al is alumni of the University of New Mexico (UNM) and attributes his musical success to mentorship from his former teachers and colleagues Jean Chard of the St. Louis Symphony, Professor James Whitlow (UNM), and from insights gained in various workshops with David Hickman, Bobby Shew, and Maurice Andre. He also must acknowledge the fact that he was able to perform daily in a variety of musical styles in various capacities as trumpet soloist and bandleader with such notable premier military ensembles as the NORAD multi-national service band and the United States Air Force Academy Falconaires, Brass Quintet and the rock/pop Blue Steel Band for 20+ years as a major factor in his musical development. He considers his selection as a Cramer Foundation Award winner (1970), The PPJSS “Alice” Lifetime Music Achievement Award (2010), his section as the director of the Colorado All-State Jazz Band (2007), performing with organist Dianne Bish for a PBS video special, and command performances for four U.S. Presidents as the top highlights of his music career.
